The Good News

The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ to spread His Mission and Message to the whole world.

The message is that God, who made the universe and everything in it in order to show forth His glory, made us to share Himself with us and give us a participation in His divine life. Mankind severed the relationship with God through sin, but God sent His Son, Jesus Christ into the world as a man to save mankind and give us a chance to live as sons and daughters of God. Jesus Christ lived as God among us, and then, to atone for the sins of the world, suffered and died, only to rise again and ascend into heavenly glory.

We know about Jesus Christ because the Holy Spirit, Whom He sent, has guarded and guided the Church through the ages to keep pure and intact all that Christ and His Apostles taught. What they taught is summed up in the Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord.
He was conceived
by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
of the Father.
He will come again to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
